JOYCE SIMS - A NEW BEGINNING
Joyce Sims "A New Beginning" Album Review
second coming
well i must say that i was rather eager to review this cd. A whole generation has gone by since Joyce has made an album and oh how i have missed her. She has made a formidable return and as she states in the first song that she: "has been through some changes". I found the first seven songs flawless esp. I praise his name ,what the world needs now,and a new begining. the updated all in all is great however jeers to the horrible flute ridden trip-hop version of "come ito my life". One more note, if you get the import cd you will be blessed with 2 bonus cuts:save the children, and what the world needs now(jsp mix).Welcome back joyce and keep cranking out the great music! 4 1/2 stars.

BUSCEMI - RETRO NUEVO
Buscemi "Retro Nuevo" Album Review
Another Strong Buscemi Album
Buscemi's one of my favorite producers/DJ's. Admittedly I've never found the perfect 5 star effort from him but he's so consistently good, he ends up being 5 stars overall. Dirk Swartenbroex has been around for around a decade now delivering sweet house beats and tunes, loaded with influences from around the world. He took a stronger affinity to Brasil with some of his cuts and he's had some amazing reworks done - not to mention guest performers like Isabelle Antenna. This represents his fourth full album, released in early 2007. So what can you expect from the man who claimed that his inspiration is 'beautiful women?' (hence, every album cover of his has a female)
Expect consistency - another good release. "Lost" starts out and it actually reminds me a bit of Minus 8's work witih the way it builds. Nice track. A very typical Buscemi track is "Nao Falo Portuguese". Brings me back to the days of "Ramiro's Theme". This one's a bit silly, but it's got a sort of charm to it and it's got an amazing level of production work in it with the effects in the back-ground and the direction of the song. Really well done! Hopefully it'll get a great remix... hopefully by Conte. "Brasileiras" follows up adequately so too. Nice little Batucada sample in the background as the song builds steam... festive and really made for the turntable/summmer parties. "Sahib Balkan" was also pretty cool - you definitely get a picture in your head with this one. Think along the lines of "The Karminsky Experience" with even more sampling. I thought "Medusa" was interesting too because it reminded me of an old Bugz In the Attic base-line with Mark Force (40 Days, 40 Nights). I was also a fan of "Isolada Do Mundo" - sweet stuff here. Yet more amazing effects that are delivered with precision. And in a very astute move, Isabelle Antenna returns for another track with "Nothing to Worry About". What a voice she's got - dripping with class.
A good effort from Buscemi. It seems like forever between his releases but this one was pretty nice. Admittedly, I wasn't a fan of all the tracks in there but I heard more than enough to get excited about any upcoming 12" remixes in the works. If you do like this, check out some compost artists too - particularly Beanfield and Minus 8. Jazzanova should also make your seek list and you'll also want to check out Amon Tobin if you haven't already.

NEMESIS - NUMBER ONE IN HEAVEN (THE EXTENDED MIXES)
Nemesis "Number One in Heaven (the Extended mixes)" Album Review
single with different sides
I remember checking out this video awhile back. Loved the song and everything about Nemesis Rising. Now they have the single release as well. It has different sides with a variety of feels and it only adds to the original song which is pretty good by itself. But add in all these great mixes and you have a single with new life. Whether it be uptempo, dance or club vibes this extended mix of Number One in Heaven has it all and is very much worth the price of admission.
